United States / 1921-1940 Issues

On July 22, 1929, the first catapult mail flight from the ship "Bremen" to New York City took place. The aircraft took off 400 km from New York City and splashed down in the harbor 2.5 hours later. The mail was transferred to a vessel belonging to the German shipping company Norddeutscher Lloyd, which also owned the Bremen. It arrived in Newark, N.J., on July 23, 1929. The postmark of the place of receipt is missing. Extremely rare, sent on the first launch of catapult mail from the Europe to the USA from the ship "Bremen". Also of interest is the recipient, A.C. Roessler, a legend of American philately, who published the magazine Air Plane Stamp News and designed and printed the signature airmail envelopes with a double bar (Double Bar Air Mail Envelope) and the signature marking "A.C. Roessler", just such an envelope was sent to him. Apparently, it was in his collection
