Field Post Office No. 22 (FPO No. 22) was originally formed in Riga as a corps post office to serve the 20th Army Corps of the Russian Empire. In February 1915, the office was located in the Suwalki – Grodno – Augustow area on the Northwestern Front. It was during this exact period (in February 1915) that the 20th Army Corps engaged in extremely heavy and bloody fighting there during the Augustow Operation (Second Battle of the Masurian Lakes)
