Germany / WWII Occupations (1939-1945)

This historical artifact consists of a letter and its envelope sent during World War II to a prisoner in the Ravensbrück women's concentration camp.

The recipient was Stefania Elbl, an inmate likely of Polish origin. with prisoner number 7529, housed in Block 14 (Barrack 14).
The envelope features a probably later added red 12-Pfennig German Reich stamp with Adolf Hitler's portrait, administrative sorting marks from the camp management and the purple censor-postmark

The letter is written in broken German. Inmates were generally only allowed to receive mail written in German so that the camp censors could monitor the content.
The top right corner bears the official purple stamp: "Postzensurstelle f. F. K. L. Ravensbrück / Zensiert" (Mail Censorship Office for the Women's Concentration Camp Ravensbrück / Censored).

The sender expresses relief that Stefania successfully received a care package ("Es ist ein Glück, daß Du Paket erhalst"). Food and clothing packages from family members were critical for survival against camp starvation.
