Germany / German Empire (1872-1918)

1915 Prisinor of War letter from prisinor of war camp in Döbeln, Germany dated November 1, 1915 to the Bureau des Moskauer Hilfscomite für Kriegsgefangene (Bureau of the Moscow Relief Committee for Prisoners of War) in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The handwritten note at the top, "Kriegsgefangenensendung" (Prisoner of War Mail), along with the "F.a." (Frei laut Anordnung / Free by order) postmark, confirms that the letter was exempt from postage.

The red postmark "Geprüft / Gefangenen-Lager, Döbeln" indicates it was sent from the Döbeln prisoner-of-war camp in Saxony, Germany. The "Geprüft" (Examined) postmark shows it was inspected by military censors before being sent to the neutral country of Denmark.
