"1977 (17 Aug) Rare postmark, Arctic Post Polar Flight, Nuclear Icebreaker ""Arctic"", Cover to Murmansk, USSR, Russia"

Russia & Soviet Union / Soviet Union (1961-1991)
"An envelope with a rare ""North Pole"" stamp. It was on board the nuclear icebreaker Arktika when it was heading to the North Pole. At the Pole, this stamp was used to cancel any envelopes on board (mostly, these were ""Since March 8"" envelopes, there were few of them, and then this stamp was thrown into an ice hole. All this was filmed on video and on August 17, 1977, it was shown on the ""Vremya"" program on the central TV of the USSR. The excitement was caused by the announcement in advance that there would be a special stamp on board the icebreaker, but they did not take care to acquire envelopes."
