The cover contains the official regulations of the camp on the left. The vertical text in the middle section identifies the inmate as Mieczysław Jakubowski, born on October 24, 1917. He is the one registered as a Polish political prisoner ("Schutzhäftling pol."), housed in Block 27 at KL Auschwitz. As verified on the inside of the sheet, his official prisoner number is 998. 

In the top left corner, there is a bold, red rectangular stamp reading "Postzensurstelle Konzentrationslager Auschwitz" (Mail Censorship Office, Auschwitz Concentration Camp). This indicates that the document had to pass through the hands of SS censors before being dispatched.

Prisoner numbers under 1,000 belong to the earliest inmates of Auschwitz. Jakubowski arrived during the very first mass transports of Polish political prisoners from Tarnów in June 1940. Surviving until October 1941 was rare, as these early prisoners endured the brutal initial construction phase of the camp.
Camps Rules: The printed text outlines highly restrictive communication laws, including a limit of two letters or cards per month, a strict 15-line limit per page, an absolute ban on packages, and no visitation rights.

Also the letter includes the printed camp regulations on the left and the prisoner's handwritten details on the right, written in the old German handwriting style.

The letter is written in German, containing several grammatical errors that indicate the writer was a non-native speaker
He asks his parents to send warm clothes, specifically slippers and a scarf (size 44). He explicitly hopes his mother might knit the scarf herself as a precious keepsake.
He confirms that the money they sent is sufficient. He begs them to write twice a month.

The bottom of the letter carries the official red ink stamp of the camp authorities: "Postzensurstelle K. L. Auschwitz" (Mail Censorship Office Office, Auschwitz Concentration Camp).
Regulations: The printed rules strictly limited prisoners to sending and receiving only two letters or postcards per month, capped line counts, prohibited packages, and declared all release requests useless.
