1943 (27 Nov) Third Reich, Germany, Censored Postcard from Buchenwald Concentration Camp to Hochheim West Prussia, Censorship Postmark, More Details in Description

Germany / WWII Occupations (1939-1945)

The card is a standardized, pre-printed concentration camp stationery postcard adressed to Hochheim, District of Strasburg, Post office Gosslershausen, West Prussia (located in Nazi-occupied Poland at the time).
The left halft contains the pre-printed fields for the sender's details filled out in cursive handwriting. Below the address, the text "Schriftverkehr nur deutsch" (Correspondence in German only) is stamped in faded red-brown ink.
Right half features the recipient's address handwritten in large cursive with an weak censorship postmark geprüft (prooved)

The sender was Josef Rambiert, prisoner number: 2232, who lived in Block 1, Room 16 (Bl. 1/16), Buchenwald Concentration Camp, who was a protective custody prisoner. This category was used for political or ideological opponents of the Nazi regime.

Josef explicitly writes that he is "Gott sei Dank gesund" (Thank God, healthy) and that everything is in "bester Ordnung" (perfect order). This forced, reassuring tone was mandatory. The SS camp censors strictly reviewed all outgoing mail; any mention of forced labor, starvation, or abuse would lead to the destruction of the card and severe physical punishment for the prisoner.
